Translations of some frequently used terms:
- messing = brass
- etswerk = etched
- gieten = casting
- giethars = resin cast
- kunststof = resin cast (or plastic)
- periode = period in which the item did service
- opschriften = Lettering / text on the item

General info about the Dutch railways and companies:
- SS or Staatsspoorwegen: one of the two largest railway companies in Holland
from 1963 to 1921
They had light green locomotives, grey goods wagons and green and brown
carriages.
- HSM or Hollandse Spoorweg Maatschappij: The other large railway in Holland,
mainly concentrated arround the larger ports of Amsterdam and Rotterdam. They
had verry dark green locomotives, brown goods wagons end green and brown
carriages.
- NBDS or Noord Braband Duitsche Spoorwegmaatschappij: This company had only
one mainline but it was a near straight line to Germany so a lot of
international traffic went across this line. Their locomotives were blue (dark
green upto 1907), carriages were green, grey, yellow or brown, goods wagons
were light grey. This company had the most lively colours used in Holland.
Taken over by the SS in 1919.
- NCS or Nederlandse Centraal Spoorweg maatschappij: This was a smaller
company that was focused arround the center of Holland. they had brown and for
a while yellow locomotives, blue goods wagons and green and brown carriages.

- NRS or Nederlandse Rhijnspoorweg Maatschappij: This old company was split
up between the HSM and SS in 1883 by the gouvernment to concentrate railways
and improve overall performance. Verry little information about livry etc.
remains today.
- NS or Nederlandse Spoorwegen: In 1919 the NCS and NBDS were taken over by
the SS leaving only the HSM and SS als railwaycompanies in Holland. These two
merged in 1921 to the NS. All locomotives were painted green, carriages in a
bit darker green, goods wagons dark blue/grey. This company still exists these
days as our National Dutch railways.
